About

Welcome to Thewizardofweightloss.com , my own little corner of the world wide web, and in case you were wondering, yes I am “The Wizard”!

Let me tell you a little bit about me and why I started this web site…

The Wizard of Weight Loss-that's me! :-)

The Wizard of Weight Loss-that's me! 12 stone 7lbs (175lbs) - yikes!

Lets start with some stats…I’m 32 years old, currently weigh 12 stone 7lbs or for my Stateside readers 175lbs and I’m a UK dress size 14/16 but it wasn’t always this way. Roll back 13 years, I was aged 19 and tipped the scales at a not so healthy 20 stone (280lbs)!! It has taken me until now, give or take a bit of yo-yoing (!) to achieve a stable weight, despite still chasing my elusive goal of 9 1/2 stone (133lbs). At the time of writing I have officially been trying to lose weight for more than 21 years, that’s over two thirds of my life! I have tried every diet, exercise programme, pill, potion and lotion that I have had the pleasure or displeasure (cue the Cabbage Soup Diet!) of coming across and now I am going to share those experiences with you.

I started out in life a thin (skinny even!) little girl, a bit of a tomboy always running around climbing trees, and falling out of them, with my brother and our friends. At aged 8 this all changed, a serious illness lead to me dropping out of school, having long stays in hospital and being prescribed long-term medication which encouraged weight gain. This combined with reduced activity levels and my relatives constantly bringing me “sweet treats” because I was ill lead to my weight ballooning. By aged 9 I was seriously overweight for my age, a pattern that continued until the peak at aged 19 when I hit the all time high of 20 stone (280lbs) plus! I say plus because our home scales only went up to 20 stone so for all I know I topped out at 21 stone (294lbs)! But hey, when you’re tipping the scales over the maximum reading I don’t think we need to quibble about a few pounds, I was too dangerously overweight for both my health and my self esteem to handle.

I decided enough was enough and with the goal of getting into University and being well enough and healthy enough to finish my studies I started to set weight loss and exercise goals for myself. Up until this point I had tried various diets with limited success, I went to Weight Watchers and Slimming World but found it hard to cope with the pitying looks from the other slimmers as “the young sick girl”. At this point the thing that changed was me, I decided I could take control of my weight loss and so, that’s what I did. Over a period of 3 years I slimmed down to 12 stone (168lbs) and give or take a stone (14lbs) up or down I have maintained this weight loss to this day.

I don’t have a magic weight loss secret, I wish there was one! But, I have been there, I have done it and I’ve got T-shirts in about 8 different sizes to prove it!! I still battle with my weight today and I have a goal of achieving a steady weight of 9 1/2 stone – 10 stone (133lbs – 140lbs). I have recently taken up the gauntlet again and I am on a quest to finally achieve my goal weight and through this blog I will share my journey with you, through the good and the bad.

Throughout this site I will review various diets, exercise videos, books, weight loss supplements and weight loss membership services, I have researched and had first hand experience with everything that I discuss on the site and I have done my best to be candid in my writing.

My hope is that through this site I can inspire others to achieve their weight loss goals through sharing my experiences and also by wading through the myths and the hype that surround the confusing array of weight loss products and services that are available. I have been as honest as I can with my reviews and I try to highlight the good and the bad points that I have found, giving an unbiased and informative opinion. I only wish that a site like this existed when I started on my weight loss journey as it would have saved me spending time, money and energy on things that don’t work or at least don’t work for me!

Thanks for taking the time to read my story and I hope you enjoy the site. :-)

All the best,
